Africa’s IATA regional headquarters based in Johannesburg, is there to support its member airlines, accredited travel and cargo agents and other industry partners. IATA has sub-regional offices and strong representation in: Eastern Africa, Southern Africa, South Western Africa and Central West Africa

Safety
Safety is the industry’s first priority and continues to be the main focus for IATA in Africa, in 2009 Africa’s safety performance was poor in relation to previous years, therefore particular emphasis in 2010 will be placed on these projects to get the accident rate back in line:

Environment
IATA Africa is working with its member airlines towards becoming an enviromentally responsible industry, reducing carbon emissions, through different programs, campaigns and lobbying efforts.
Simplifying the Business (StB)
Is working towards changing the way the air transport operates – resulting in better service for passengers and lower costs for the industry. This year emphasis will be placed on 4 projects across the Africa region and these are:

Financial Services
The office in Johannesburg provides essential services through the Billing Settlement Plan (BSP) and Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS) for all of Africa where IATA is present and will, where appropriate, open new operations.
Industry Charges, Fuel and Taxation
IATA is ever vigilant in its negotiations on behalf of its members on savings and cost avoidance of industry taxes, charges and fuel fees.
