Operations Committee Meets in Montreal

This issue focuses on the outcome of the 18th meeting of the Operations Committee (OPC) which met in Montreal on 7-8 October. IATA and the OPC establish objectives for the industry in the fields of safety, security, operations and infrastructure, both on global and regional scales.

The looming airline crisis dominated the discussions, which focussed on defining solutions as well as figuring how IATA can help its member airlines further.

The meeting was comprised of IATA, 20 Senior Management from IATA member airlines and industry partners as well as senior representatives from ICAO, CANSO, FAA, Eurocontrol and ACI.

Recent IATA Numbers

According to IATA's recent press release, the latest traffic results for September include a decline in passenger traffic of 2.9% and drop in cargo traffic of 7.7% compared to the same month in 2007. International load factors tumbled by 4.4 percentage points from August to 74.8% in September". Read article.

Also, IATA's latest Financial Forecast reports significant losses continue in 2009, "We now forecast that airline industry net losses will total $5.2 billion this year and weak financial performance will continue into 2009 with further net losses of $4.1 billion". Read report.
