The IATA Legal Department acts as advocate for and advises the industry on legal matters, including industry procedures and practices. It also coordinates industry and group litigation, and represents Members' interests with respect to international treaties and agreements. In addition, the department provides legal advice to IATA divisions, including advice on Traffic Conferences, special projects and business development.
The Legal Department holds an annual Legal Symposium which is open to all those interested in the legal aspects of the aviation industry. This conference is regarded as the world's premier aviation law conference.
The Legal department also works closely with Legal Committee, which acts as advisor to the Board of Governors, the Director General and other relevant IATA bodies on legal matters affecting Member airlines.
