IATA works with members and stakeholders to identify and resolve industry problems related to flight operations, including:
- Analysis of flight operations data
- Formulation and promotion of IATA operational strategies
- Quality assurance matters
- Maintenance of the airline Operational Information Exchange
IATA represents its members at numerous ICAO and World Meteorological Organisation technical panels and study groups regarding the above topics.
IATA's role in flight operations is to develop and promote policies and practices regarding the safe and effective operation of aircraft. The IATA Flight Operations team participates in a number of ICAO technical panels and manages a series of workgroups inlcuding the IATA Flight Operations Group (FOG). The IATA FOG Information Exchange (FOG IE) enables FOG members to quickly and confidentially exchange information on any technical matter from which lessons are learned or corrective measures are taken.
