IATF - Programmes and Application Procedures

Through the services of the IATA Training and Development Institute, the International Airline Training Fund (IATF) offers a wide range of Leadership, Professional or Basic Skills Courses, applicable to most areas of the airline business (Management, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Operations, Air Law, etc), under the following programmes:

Collective Scholarships Programme

These are scholarships for IATA classroom courses on diverse topics relevant to the aviation industry business, taking place at any IATA Training Centre.

These scholarships include tuition fees only and are advertised at short notice. Interested airlines should cover the participant's air travel, accommodation and meals. There are no restrictions in terms of number of applications per year.

  • Training and Staff Development Managers are encouraged to send their contact details to the IATF Manager in order to be notified as soon as a course is available under this programme.

Regional Training Programme

A tailored-made training package is brought to the premises of a developing nation airline in order to help it meet key industry priorities like IOSA or E-ticketing.

Personnel from other carriers in the region may be also invited to attend in the event that the targeted hosting airline cannot make use of all offered seats (usually up to 25) due to operational reasons .

IATF covers all the costs of providing an instructor accredited by IATA and the course materials for all participants.

  • Training and Staff Development Managers are encouraged to contact the IATF Manager to explore opportunities under this Programme.

Barter Programme

Exchange of IATA courses for courses can be offered by an IATA Member airline from a developing country.

The objective of this programme is to support and further enhance the airlines' training capacities by providing their instructors greater experience in teaching to audiences with different training needs, while ensuring that the training needs of third-party airlines are met.

Two kinds of exchanges can be made:

1. Exchange between the IATF and the Airline: the interested airline hosts an IATA course at its premises, for the benefit of 15-25 staff in one go. In exchange, the interested airline offers one of its regular courses to staff from another airline, at a location chosen by IATF.

2. Exchange between the IATF and a qualified airline instructor: an airline instructor gets a scholarship to attend a scheduled IATA course at any IATA Training Center. In exchange, the airline instructor teaches a course in his/her area of specialization to staff from another airline, at a location chosen by IATF.

  • Training and Staff Development Managers are encouraged to contact the IATF Managerto further explore opportunities under this programme.

The following information should be provided:

  • a detailed description of the courses to be offered to IATF in exchange for IATA training
  • the curriculum vitae of the instructors in charge of these courses.

After careful review of course content and instructor's profiles, IATF only approves requests from airlines with courses that meet the minimum IATA training and curricular standards.
