The purpose of the Manual is to establish a set of common standards for external exchanges. It does not set out to dictate how airlines or other organizations should handle their own internal schedule information.
To achieve standardization in technique, format and construction, this manual includes all relevant IATA standards and recommended common practices, including those of the ATA/IATA Reservations Interline Message Procedures - Passenger (AIRIMP). The SSIM standards are developed and maintained by the Schedules Information Standards Committee (SISC), which meets prior to the Schedules Conference twice yearly.
As of 2010, the SSIM Manual will be published once a year in March. October updates will be supplied electronically to March edition clients.
