Fact Sheet - Partnership for Safety

  • IATA’s Partnership for Safety (PfS) programme helps airlines in developing countries prepare for an IOSA audit
    • Airlines in Africa, Latin America and CIS are the priority, but PfS is active in all regions
  • IATA is investing US$3 million over 3 years in PfS (2005-2007)
  • PfS uses IATA specialists and accredited audit and training organisations 
  • Programme elements include:
    • Seminars on industry best practices in operational safety for airlines and nations  
    • Individual airline operational gap analyses
    • Identifying potential resources, including funding 
    • Continuous contact with each airline to monitor progress 
  • PfS complements the efforts of ICAO’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme
  • Since launch in June 2005 over 180 airlines have participated in PfS awareness seminars, including 100 IATA members 
    • 73 airlines have undergone gap analyses, including 59 IATA members.
    • 25 member airlines in Africa participated in post-gap training with the assistance of the International Airline Training Fund (IATF)

Partnership for Safety Plus

Based on the success of Partnership for Safety, PfS Plus

  • Helps airlines close IOSA findings and prepare for renewal audits
  • Works closely with IATA regional offices to run the activities
  • Uses tailored approach to every airline
  • 51 airlines to date received assistance in the form of newly designed CARs closing courses, awareness seminars, SMS sessions and other training as per individual needs 
  • 98 Airlines benefited from 83 IATF sponsored training courses
